Iridium obtains highway concession in Portugal

Iridium, the concessions company of the ACS Group, was selected by the Portuguese government to build and operate the new Baixo Alentejo highway, which shall connect the towns of Sines and Beja, in the centre of the country.

The Portuguese government will likely only take a final decision on advancing with planned high-speed rail links to Spain in October, after scheduled legislative elections, Public Works Minister Mário Lino said Tuesday.
“The normal pace of things means that only in the next legislature, around October, will there be conditions, and not before, to sign the concession contract” for the first stretch of high-speed line from the Spanish border, Lino said.

The Thai government is targeting a bigger role for the private sector in boosting economic growth, raising the value of projects it expects to finance in partnership with private investors to 10% of its THB1.43 trillion ($43.07 billion) investment budget from the currently planned 2%, a senior finance ministry official said Wednesday.
