THE funny thing about toll roads is that the more popular they become, the less attractive the customer proposition: motorists pay for the pleasure of not so much motoring as passively observing fascinating scenery such as impact barriers and overhead advertising. TOLL road operator ConnectEast says it is working to grow traffic and revenue on its EastLink tollroad, after reporting an annual net loss of $531.5 million. The group also announced an equity raising of up to $421 million as it posted the result for the year ended June 30, 2009, which compares to a net loss of $9.33 million in the prior year.
