Kidney patients are still waiting to use state-of-the-art facilities at a new £100 million PFI hospital five months after it opened because of a design flaw.
A major wing of the New Victoria Hospital, Glasgow, which was built under a controversial private finance scheme, remains closed to patients after weaknesses were identified with the water treatment plant used in kidney dialysis treatment.

The future hospital of the McGill University Health Centre will definitely be built as a public-private partnership, executive director Arthur Porter insisted Tuesday evening.
The provincial government has been seriously considering taking over the MUHC project from the private sector. Health Minister Yves Bolduc’s press attaché told The Gazette two weeks ago that the public-private partnership model – known as a PPP or P3 – might be abandoned if “it’s not in the interest of taxpayers.”

Bermuda Hospitals Board has begun the selection process for a private partner for the redevelopment of King Edward Memorial Hospital.
They released a request for qualifications (RFQ) to the market on Monday - the first step in a two-phase process to identify a partner to design, build, finance and maintain new facilities on the existing hospital site.

hospital. The project will be on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis and will be given to a contractor for a period of 10 years.

Bridgepoint Health and Infrastructure Ontario
announced today that Plenary Health Bridgepoint (Plenary) is the preferred
proponent selected to design, build, finance and maintain the new Bridgepoint
Hospital in Toronto, which will replace the existing facility.
Expressly designed to serve people in need of rehabilitation services and
living with complex chronic disease and disability, the new hospital will be
10 storeys high, with larger rooms, state-of-the-art space for therapies, a
capacity for 472 beds and be approximately 600,000 square feet in size.
Additionally, the historic Don Jail will be incorporated into the new site.
The interior will be refurbished, preserving its historical significance, into
the administrative and education centre for the hospital. It will be open to
the public, on a prescribed basis.

Belfast engineering company has won a slice of a £690 million hospital building project in Birmingham, it was announced today.
Fin Engineering secured the contract to design, manufacture and deliver a state-of-the-art plant room for the Birmingham New Hospital PFI project, which, with more than 1,400 beds, is one of the largest healthcare development schemes ever undertaken in the UK.

FCC TO BUILD AND OPERATE A HOSPITAL IN NORTHERN IRELAND.
Western Health and Social Care Trust has signed a concession contract with the Northern Ireland Health Group consortium, in which FCC Construction is the largest shareholder (39%), for the design, construction, financing and operation of the new hospital in Enniskillen, in Northern Ireland (UK). Carillion Plc said it achieved financial close on the new Surgicentre facility, worth a total of GBP 153 million, to be built at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage for the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and Hertfordshire Primary Care Trusts.
