The government is set to give its final approval for the construction of the country's largest transportation project.
The National Economic and Development Authority board, chaired by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is set to meet next week and may take up the approval of the Metro Rail Transit 7 (MRT 7) even before the proponent, the consortium Universal LRT Corp. submits the document for the definite funding of the project.

SAN Miguel Corp. (SMC) is more likely to initially invest about P3 billion into the Tarlac-La Union Expressway Project (TLUTE).
SMC is a highly diversified conglomerate which is now the majority stockholder of Petron Corp.
In an interview on Tuesday, Ramon S. Ang, SMC participation in the project will require only a small investment, which can easily be financed by the company’s excess cash.

Philippines firm San Miguel Corp. said Tuesday it plans to acquire a stake in a 312.5 million-dollar toll road project as part of a strategy to diversify from its core brewing business.
San Miguel, the country's biggest private employer and Southeast Asia's largest food and beverage company, said it is interested in the 88.5-kilometer (55-mile) Tarlac-La Union Expressway project, which is due to start this year.
