The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed 95 per cent of the civil work. By early next year, it will hand over the stations to the concessionaire — Reliance Infrastructure — and CAF, a Spanish company, for finishing. Operations will start by next September.

Saudi Arabia is seeking foreign investment for a series of projects to modernise and expand the country's ageing rail infrastructure, Italy's financial daily Il Sole 24 reported on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia's first major rail project in 50 years, The Landbridge project, will soon invite tenders for 1,600 kilometres of new rail lines.
The project aims to transform Saudi Arabia's existing rail network into a world-class freight and passenger rail link across the country.

Could there be some untapped revenue sources to fill funding gaps so Evergreen Line construction could proceed?
That was the question posed to B.C.’s transportation minister this week and the answer seems to be “maybe.”
Shirley Bond said she hasn’t ruled out a public-private partnership (P3) for the Evergreen Line, which is facing a funding gap of about $673 million.

MEED reported that Beirut based Dar al Handasah will complete the preliminary design work for Jordan Railway’s proposed 960 kilometers long rail network by the end of 2009.
Mr Nayef Rawashdeh director of the railways department at Jordan’s Transport Ministry said that “It is 90% complete.”
Dar is determining the route and calculating the potential revenues the estimated JOD 4.5 billion railways will generate. The network will run the length of the country from the southern Red Sea port of Aqaba to the Syrian border with 2 spur lines running to Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Seven South Korean companies will take part in a project to build a $1.2 billion elevated railway track in Hanoi, state-run Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the Ministry of Transportation.
The companies, including Samsung, Daewoo, Ska, Kumho, Kangnam, will build the 33.5-kilometer railway line linking the center of the city to its western outskirts, the agency said, without detailing the full names of the firms.

Today the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) finalized the long-expected transfer of Dulles Toll Road operations to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). Although MWAA anticipates no immediate service changes, the authority has proposed raising the facility’s mainline tolls from 75 cents to $1.50 by 2012 in support of a $5 billion extension of Metro rail service to Dulles Airport. The 14-mile highway, which connects Dulles and I-66, is expected to yield $66 million of toll revenues in 2009.
