MEED reported that Abu Dhabi Airports Company will develop its USD 6.8 billion midfield terminal project at Abu Dhabi International airport as a construction contract rather than a build operate transfer deal as originally planned.

The Bangalore-based GMR Group, along with Turkish company Limak and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhard Airports, has built the new airport terminal of the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport (ISGA) in Turkey. The consortium had won the contract on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model in July 2007, bagging its rights for 20 years at a cost of more than Rs 3,100 crore.

Contractors had expected the airport operator to issue a tender earlier this year but senior management changes at ADAC delayed the process. ADAC had planned to build the terminal as part of a build operate transfer project and had short listed 3 companies for the contract: France’s Aero ports de Paris Germany’s Hochtief and Turkey’s TAV.

The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), plans to develop a new container terminal for handling containers from the proposed Berth 18, via the PPP (public-private partnership) route on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis at an estimated cost of Rs276 crore.

Chile's state-owned San Antonio port administrator Empresa Portuaria San Antonio (EPSA) hopes to launch the Costanera-Espigón terminal concession by year-end, the firm's chairman Patricio Arrau told BNamericas.
The concession contemplates handing over sites 4 and 7 of Costanera-Espigón to a single operator for a period of 30 years. The project will require an investment of over US$300mn in infrastructure and equipment.

Saudi Arabia plans to award a build-operate-transfer contract to expand an airport in the city of Madinah at a cost of 9 billion riyals ($2.4 billion), a report said.
The new airport terminal is expected to be completed within a maximum of four years, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper quoted Abdullah Rahimi, who heads the country's civil aviation authority GACA, as saying.

Baltimore Terminal Gets Two Bidders. US
Ceres Terminals and Ports America have qualified to submit offers for a possible long-term lease to operate Baltimore’s Seagirt Marine Terminal and make improvements that would include a fourth berth with a 50-foot water draft.
The Maryland Port Administration said last fall it was seeking bidders for a public-private partnership at Seagirt, the Port of Baltimore’s main container terminal. The terminal now has three berths with 45-foot water depth and the original design provided for the addition of a fourth.

The global economic crisis has caused at least four port concession projects in Mexico to fail, according to a maritime report by the UN's Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) obtained by BNamericas.
In addition to the postponement of the 50bn-peso (US$3.82bn) Punta Colonet tender in Baja California state, the report cites three other port tenders that have been negatively affected by the lack of private companies interested in or able to carry out the required investments under the terms stipulated by the federal government.

Bidder Seeks Virginia Terminals.US
The Newport News Daily Press reported Wednesday that CenterPoint Properties, which said last summer that it planned to invest $350 million in a 900-acre intermodal distribution center in nearby Suffolk, Va., was preparing to submit a formal offer this week. Several Hampton Roads maritime officials confirmed the report.

Hutchison Whampoa's (0013.HK) port unit said it will withdraw from a Manta cargo port project, reportedly worth $513 million, after the Ecuadorian government made changes in the concession agreement.
