A 42 km ‘Namma Metro’ will criss-cross the City on a Phase-1, East-West and North-South corridor in September 2012 at a cost exceeding Rs 8,158 crore. A high-speed train at a cost of Rs 5,767 crore will become a reality in 2011-12 to connect the BRV parade grounds to the Bengaluru International Airport on NH-7 on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. A 59 km monorail corridor has been identified to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore, on a public-private-partnership (PPP) within the next three years.

Pakistan railway has decided to run non stop train "Karachi express" between Karachi and Lahore Section under private partnership in order to overcome increasing financial deficit. Application in this respect has been convened from interested parties by 6th July, an official of Pakistan railway told Online.

This week, Obama will unveil his vision for high-speed rail in the United States after unexpectedly adding $8 billion to the economic stimulus package for high-speed train travel -- the biggest commitment of its kind ever made by the federal government. America is miles behind. In Japan, the bullet train can wisk passengers from one city to the next at nearly 200 miles an hour. It's the same on France's TGV train, where passengers can get from Paris to Lyon in a little less than two hours. A dozen countries around the world enjoy high-speed rail, but America is not one of them.

Actually, trains are beginning to leave the station all over the country. This month, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will inaugurate the Rail Runner, a new commuter line linking Albuquerque and Santa Fe. California voters just approved $10 billion to start building a high-speed rail line that will stretch from San Diego to Sacramento.
